She is inspired by the diverse natural surroundings of the Door Peninsula and her travels as far as the other side of the world. Reflections, both literally and figuratively is a common theme in her photography, paintings and writings. She hopes to inspire others to find inspiration in what nature has to teach us about ourselves in whatever present moment we show up in. Growing up, her father lived in Chicago and regularly took her to the Art Institute of Chicago. “PASSAGE OF TIME”

BY EMILY ROEDL

This black and white image takes advantage of a full tonal scale from the deep black and mid grays of the water to the bright whites of the clouds. The viewer’s eye is captivated by the reflective quality of the surface of the water.  The reflections of the reeds in the water as they undulate and bend is quite enjoyable to observe. The elements in this composition are simple yet strong. The dark line that separates the water from the sky is a powerful visual that both grounds and divides the earth and sky.” -Lars Toplmann, photography judge
